AI rewriting is everywhere: how can my work be protected immediately?
Immediate practical steps for preserving original files before AI paraphrasing, with honest limits about exact-byte hashes and meaning-level rewrites.
AI rewriting makes copying feel faster and harder to recognize. A paragraph can be paraphrased, a script can be rephrased, and a product page can be rebuilt with different words. The immediate protection you can take is practical, not magical: preserve your original files, stamp important versions before publishing, keep drafts and communications, and be honest about what technical fingerprints can show.
Stamp the exact bytes before you publish
IdeaProofNow records a SHA-256 fingerprint of exact file bytes with a certificate ID, UTC time, proof package, public log, and optional OpenTimestamps / Bitcoin anchor. If the same file is later verified, the matching fingerprint can support that this exact file existed by the recorded time. That is useful for your original timeline. It is not copyright registration, trademark registration, a notary act, authorship proof by itself, or legal advice.
Be honest about AI paraphrases
A hash is intentionally strict. If an AI system rewrites your article in different words, changes the order, exports a new PDF, or recompresses media, the new file will not match the same SHA-256 fingerprint. A dated fingerprint does not prove meaning-level copying on its own. It can still help show that your original expression existed first, especially when combined with drafts, publication records, source files, watermarks, and platform evidence.
- Stamp final drafts before posting, pitching, or sending to clients.
- Keep source documents, outlines, prompts, edits, and delivery messages.
- Use watermarks or visible authorship cues where they fit the medium.
- Capture suspicious pages with URLs, dates, account names, and visible copied elements.
- Use platform IP tools and legal help when the issue is serious.
Immediate does not mean immune
Immediate protection means you take steps today that make tomorrow's evidence clearer. It does not mean instant legal immunity or guaranteed takedowns. If a near-copy uses different words, your argument may depend on similarity, access, chronology, market context, platform policy, and local law. A timestamp is one technical anchor in that larger story, and accuracy makes it more credible.
