My work was copied — are screenshots enough proof?
Why screenshots, EXIF, and post times are weak alone, and how a dated file fingerprint gives a checkable alternative before you escalate.
When work is copied, the first reflex is to screenshot the chat, the folder date, the social post, the cloud listing. Those images can support a timeline. They do not usually prove the exact bytes of the file you say existed first, and clocks or UIs can be misleading.
What to keep instead (or in addition)
- The original file you can still open and hash.
- A public certificate ID with stamp time and SHA-256 digest.
- Messages, invoices, and platform records that explain the relationship.
- A clear note of which file version was stamped.
IdeaProofNow helps with the technical fingerprint piece: stamp before publishing, verify for free later. It does not replace lawyers, platform forms, or copyright registration when those are required.
